Parents

Parents,

   (1)    Last week we handed out "Goal Sheets" to all of our wrestlers to be turned in by this Thursday (December 16th).  Please fill these out with your wrestler and hand them in.  Goal sheets are between you, your son and the coaches.  Parents should refer back to them as the season progresses to make sure they are keeping up with the steps necessary to achieve their goal by the end of the year.

   (2)    We will be starting to give out "Red Shirts" in the next couple of weeks for those wrestlers who are working harder and setting themselves apart from the rest of the team.  We don't just give out Red Shirts, they are earned.  If your son comes home with one, he has gone above and beyond and is doing an exceptional job.  Wrestlers are free to wear them to school that week.  Please wash and return them the following week; we only have a limited number of shirts.

   (3)    There will be a tournament every weekend with the exception of Christmas.  We strongly encourage everyone to attend as many tournaments as possible.  We had a very low turn out last weekend at the Clay Cougar Classic, especially with our beginners.  Please plan on attending every tournament that you can.  Tournaments will teach both beginners and advanced wrestlers things that cannot be learned in practice!

   (4)    Dixie Nationals is coming up very quickly we want everyone to attend.  It is a great opportunity for wrestlers of all ability levels to see the excitement of a national wrestling event.  For new wrestlers, there is a beginners bracket and  for more experienced wrestlers, it is time to step up and see what elite competition looks like.  I will be sending out a schedule in the next couple of days for meeting times and places.  Registration deadline for the event is December 21st so please sign up as soon as possible.  I will be staying at the Omni Hotel in Atlanta.  There are also many other hotels in walking distance to the arena.  Here is the link for the tournament: http://www.dixienationalswrestling.com/

   (5)    Almost all information that you need is on our site; www.vestaviawrestling.com!  Please use the site as much as possible.  If there is something that is not on the site, please let me know so I can try to get it up there.  If you have any questions about anything at all feel free to call or email me.

Our First Year Wrestlers

This past weekend was a good one for those Vestavia Wrestlers that wrestled in the Clay Cougar Classic.

We had a lot of first year wrestlers getting wins which is putting them off to a great start for their wrestling careers.

For those that had a rough weekend, keep in mind that there will always be ups and downs on the road to success, both in life and wrestling.

Remember, it is never an easy climb to the top.

First Year Wrestlers who Won a Match Saturday

Reese Gurner won 3 matches

Matthew Jemison won 4 matches

Dutch Freeman won 1 match

John Burke won 1 match

John Marshall Williams won 2 matches

Keep Up the Good Work Guys.
